The Pentagon is poised to make another change to the Unified Command Plan, this time establishing a separate command to handle Africa, reports Time Magazine online. The “African Command” would relieve three other regional commands that share responsibility for operations on the African continent, where terrorist seek an ever-larger foothold. The command with the largest share of Africa to oversee is US European Command, followed by US Central Command (which covers Djibouti, Egypt, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Kenya, Somalia, and Sudan), and US Pacific Command (Madagascar). This action is by no means a done deal, since, as Time reports, there are many who would advocate against creating another headquarters staff takes dollars and manpower away from warfighters.
