BRAC Chairman Anthony Principi says he’s working on a bridge between USAF and officials whose states stand to lose Air National Guard units or aircraft or both. In a Tuesday night broadcast interview on C-SPAN, Principi said his panel is crafting a “thoughtful compromise” that could satisfy the Air Force, which wants to close many Guard bases, and Governors who want to keep ANG aircraft and units where they are. He said commissioners are close to a consensus on a plan, but no one’s talking in specifics—yet.
As Air Force leaders consider concepts of operations for Collaborative Combat Aircraft, sustainment in the field—and easing that support by using standard parts and limiting variants—should be a key consideration, according to a new study from AFA's Mitchell Institute of Aerospace Studies.
