President Donald Trump has nominated Maj. Gen. Jay Silveria to be the next superintendent of the US Air Force Academy, the Pentagon announced Wednesday. Silveria is a 1985 graduate of the Academy and holds a Master of Social Science degree from Syracuse University, N.Y. He currently serves as deputy commander of US Air Forces Central Command. If confirmed by the Senate, he will also receive a third star. Silveria would replace Lt. Gen. Michelle Johnson, who has served as USAFA superintendent since 2013 and is the first woman to hold the position. Johnson is retiring, according to a USAFA spokesperson.
The rate of building B-21 bombers would speed up if the fiscal 2026 defense budget passes. But it remains unclear how much capacity would be added, and whether the Air Force would simply build the bombers faster, or buy more.
