A popular air show, featuring the Air Force Thunderbirds, will return to JB Andrews, Md., on Sept. 19 for the first time since 2012, according to a base release. “The 2015 JBA Air Show marks the return of the largest military event in the Nation Capital Region and will culminate the Air Force’s [68th] birthday celebration,” said Col. Brad Hoagland, Andrews and 11th Wing commander. The air show was an annual event at the base for more than 50 years until officials announced it would be held every other year due to fiscal constraints. It was then cancelled in 2014, reported the Baltimore Sun. In addition to the Thunderbirds, there will be a series of static displays at this year’s show featuring modern and vintage aircraft, as well as the USAF Honor Guard, and the USAF band, states the release. “We have been working with local community partners from Prince Georges’ County (Md.) and across the NCR. We are expecting an awe-inspiring experience for the public,” said Maj. Marc Milligan, JBA Airshow 2015 director.
