Lt. Gen. Janet Wolfenbarger, vice commander of Air Force Materiel Command since December 2009, is moving to a new assignment as the military deputy to USAF’s acquisition executive in the Pentagon, announced service officials Thursday. In her new role, Wolfenbarger will be responsible for research and development, test, production, and modernization of Air Force programs worth $40 billion annually. She will replace Lt. Gen. Mark Shackelford, who’s held the position since October 2008, and is retiring after nearly 34 years of service. Succeeding Wolfenbarger in AFMC’s No. 2 post at Wright-Patterson AFB, Ohio, will be Maj. Gen. C.D. Moore. He’s been deputy director of the F-35 program office in Arlington, Va., since June 2009. President Obama has nominated Moore for a third star for his new assignment. Both Wolfenbarger and Moore are 1980 graduates of the Air Force Academy. (Wright-Patterson release)
