Recalling the unit’s World War II heritage, in which it partnered with the 18th Airborne Corps, Air Force Reserve Command’s 440th Airlift Wing has dedicated one of its C-130s to the 18th, reports the Fayetteville Observer. Courtesy of BRAC 2005, the 440th AW has transferred to Pope AFB, N.C., which will become part of the Army’s Ft. Bragg, home to the 18th Airborne. Acting Corps commander, Maj. Gen. Daniel Allyn, said, “The relationship of the Corps and the 440th has indeed come full circle.” During World War II, the 440th operated for a time from Pope.
The United Kingdom’s Royal Air Force has unveiled a new electronic warfare drone designed to fly with fighter jets into contested airspace, including alongside its fleet of F-35s. RAF says it plans to develop models that draw on the U.S. Air Force’s approach of mating unmanned systems with crewed platforms.
