According to various news reports, there is dispute over whether the Obama Administration has issued a formal change in lexicon for the Global War on Terror. The Pentagon believes the Office of Management and Budget put out such formal word, but OMB denies any knowledge. Still, various Administration officials have begun using the term “overseas contingency operation” to denote the ongoing operations in Afghanistan and Iraq.
