The Air Force is still toting up and verifying claims it has received following the New Jersey fire sparked by an Air National Guard F-16 earlier this year, but the service has revealed that one claim, filed Aug. 1 by the Phoenix Pinelands Corp., is for $197.7 million. The Press of Atlantic City reports that the corporation is a sand mining company based in Little Egg Harbor Township. That one claim amounts to almost the entire $200 million in claims the service currently has received. The review of the incident continues, but it already has resulted in leadership changes within the units involved.
As Air Force leaders consider concepts of operations for Collaborative Combat Aircraft, sustainment in the field—and easing that support by using standard parts and limiting variants—should be a key consideration, according to a new study from AFA's Mitchell Institute of Aerospace Studies.
