Air Force Reserve Command has started work on the $7.5 million first phase of a four-phase $34.5 million lodging project at Youngstown ARS, Ohio, reports the Vindicator (requires free sign-in). The facility is home to AFRC’s 910th Airlift Wing and Naval and Marine Corps Reserve units. US Rep. Tim Ryan (D-Ohio), who was key to securing the money, said during the groundbreaking on April 23, “Once you get a project started, it’s easier to get money to finish it.” The lodging will eliminate the need to house Reservists in area motels during training, according to Col. Timothy Thomson, 910th AW commander.
Air Force Gen. Alexus G. Grynkewich assumed command of U.S. European Command on July 1, taking over the key assignment as the U.S. and its allies contend with a resurgent Russia and a grinding war in Ukraine.
