The Air Force issued long-overdue Distinguished Flying Crosses to nine Army Air Forces airmen in a Capitol Hill ceremony. Gen. Michael Moseley, Chief of Staff, presented the medals for the crew’s actions during the July 15, 1944 attack on the Nazi-controlled oil refineries around Ploesti, Romania. The rate of building B-21 bombers would speed up if the fiscal 2026 defense budget passes. But it remains unclear how much capacity would be added, and whether the Air Force would simply build the bombers faster, or buy more.
