Air Force Reserve Command’s 939th Air Refueling Wing has rededicated a memorial to the 10 Reservists who died on Nov. 22, 1996, when their HC-130, with the call sign King 56, crashed into the Pacific Ocean. The monument originally resided at the home of the 939th Air Refueling Wing (formerly the 939th Rescue Wing) at Portland, Ore. The 939th ARW is drawing down operations at Portland under BRAC 2005.
It is critical that the Air Force move forward on the replacement for its E-4B “Doomsday” aircraft to keep the capability “viable” into the next decade and beyond, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Charles Q. Brown Jr. told lawmakers May 8.
