The lawsuit filed by Michael Weinstein against the Air Force for allowing improper proselytizing at the US Air Force Academy has sparked an intervention motion by the National Association of Evangelicals. According to the Rocky Mountain News, the group wants to introduce new information—the experiences of hundreds of military chaplains—into court proceedings. Meanwhile, the Justice Department has entered its own motion, claiming Weinstein has no legal standing to sue the Air Force. As we reported earlier, one of Weinstein’s two sons and three other academy graduates joined him in the lawsuit.
The U.S. military is maintaining a beefed-up presence in the Middle East, including fighters and air defense assets, following the U.S. strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities June 22 and subsequent retaliation by the Iranians against Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar.
