The Air Force recently activated the 755th Expeditionary Mission Support Group at Bagram AB, Afghanistan, to oversee some 350 airmen who are filling in for Army personnel at 20 locations throughout Afghanistan. It mirrors the 586th EMSG “in lieu of” airmen group the Air Force established to oversee airmen supporting the Army in Iraq. The airmen in Afghanistan are handling reconstruction and development work and training members of the Afghan National Army in areas such as logistics, education and training, and medical support.
The rate of building B-21 bombers would speed up if the fiscal 2026 defense budget passes. But it remains unclear how much capacity would be added, and whether the Air Force would simply build the bombers faster, or buy more.
