Officials at Vandenberg AFB, Calif., told the Lompoc (Calif.) Record that they plan to move the remaining 29 families from east base housing by the end of the year because the 1960’s vintage housing is too costly to maintain. They also said that they don’t know yet whether they will demolish the 633 houses comprising East Vandenberg or just fence them off. Money—or lack thereof—is the deciding factor.
The Space Development Agency says it’s on track to issue its next batch of missile warning and tracking satellite contracts this month after those awards were delayed by the Pentagon’s decision to divert funds from the agency to pay troops during this fall’s prolonged government shutdown.
