US European Command hosted a Russian delegation of officers from the Russian Ministry of Defense and the Russian General Staff at its Stuttgart, Germany, headquarters recently. It was the first of four scheduled meetings this year. This first of four such meetings to be held this year produced an outline for military cooperation through 2009, according to EUCOM officials. The Russian delegation also visited the US Air Forces in Europe headquarters at Ramstein Air Base to pursue expanding the collaboration of US and Russian Air Forces.
Air Force Gen. Alexus G. Grynkewich assumed command of U.S. European Command on July 1, taking over the key assignment as the U.S. and its allies contend with a resurgent Russia and a grinding war in Ukraine.
