Fifteen Air and Army National Guard members of Kentucky’s 41st Civil Support Team (Weapons of Mass Destruction) are conducting environmental tests in Brooks, Ky., following a train derailment there Jan. 16 in which the cargo of flammable liquid spilled out on the tracks and caught fire. To help ensure public safety, Guardsmen are conducting air quality tests with local authorities, but there was no initial determination as to the type of liquid.
The Air Force is launching an effort to develop a new stand-off missile with a range of 1,000 nautical miles, or 1,150 miles, that would eventually be used for both air-to-air and air-to-surface missions.
