Gen. Michael Moseley now has a dedicated Web page where he can let airmen know about issues that keep him “up at night.” The Air Force Chief of Staff calls the new site the “Chief’s Scope” and plans to use it “to fire quick bursts of news” to alert the force to current and future topics in his focus. One of his current headaches is tanker aircraft—replacement of the current fleet is USAF’s No. 1 priority—which are old, but he says: “It isn’t just the age of the aircraft that concerns me. They also suffer from corrosion, structural fatigue, and deterioration in wiring, fuel systems components, and ducting. … We can’t buy and field the KC-X fast enough.”
The Air Force has selected Collins Aerospace and Shield AI to develop the software Collaborative Combat Aircraft will use to fly missions alongside manned fighters, the service revealed Feb. 12—and drone-maker General Atomics was quick to announce it has already flown its YFQ-42A aircraft with Collins’ system.
