Two American airmen from Malmstrom AFB, Mont., are mentoring Afghan instructors who are training Afghan national police officers in a series of security forces classes at Forward Operating Base Mehtar Lam, reports SSgt. Julie Weckerlein. “From this point on, the Afghans will have a more active role in the development of their police and security forces,” said SSgt. Daniel Smith, who serves as the police technical advisor on the Laghman Provincial Reconstruction Team. He and SrA. Zackary Osborne now can “step back and let them train themselves,” added Smith.
