Lt. Gen. Donald Wurster on Nov. 27 took command of Air Force Special Operations Command, replacing Lt. Gen. Michael Wooley. Wooley, who took his final flight last week, plans to formally retire Jan. 1. In his remarks following the ceremony, Wurster said, “For every Air Commando, you know there may very well be a day when you will be thrust into history. Whatever your specialty, … each of you has an important role to play. In an Air Force that is half the size it was when I joined, there is no extra.” (Report by 1st Lt. Amy Cooper.)
The Air Force wants to spend more than a half billion dollars through 2031 on a new protection system designed for cargo and refueling aircraft that features onboard sensors and weapons to track and take down enemy missiles and drones.
