A British municipal council rejected an application by the US Air Force to build around 500 new houses on land near RAF Mildenhall, reports the Stars and Stripes. Local citizens last year cited concerns about increased traffic. The council, according to the Stripes, also noted that ongoing restructuring within the Air Force left the actual number of new homes needed in the air.
The Air Force has embraced new technical approaches like open mission systems and rapid software updates for cutting-edge aircraft like the B-21 and Collaborative Combat Aircraft. Increasingly, though, the service is also working to apply these to its older, “legacy” aircraft, officials said this week.
