Winter Takes Navy Chair: The seat probably was still warm for Donald C. Winter, the new Secretary of the Navy, after Gordon England formally vacated the chair on Dec. 29. Winter took leadership of the Navy on Jan. 3. Previously, Winter was president of Northrop Grumman’s Mission Systems sector and rose through several TRW positions to be president and CEO of that company. He has a doctorate in physics.
The Pentagon’s cost estimate for the Iran War has risen to $37.5 billion, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth told a congressional committee July 21—and without emergency supplemental funding, the military will have to “curtail” training to cover those costs, he added.
