Georgia Gov. Sonny Perdue hosted a kickoff for USAF’s 60th anniversary celebration this week in Atlanta, marking the start of events that will run up to Atlanta’s Air Force Week celebration from Oct. 8-14. The theme for USAF’s 60th anniversary is “Heritage to Horizons.” Air Force Reserve Command is hosting the Atlanta events and MSgt. John Cowman, who is co-chairman of Atlanta’s Air Force Week committee and a Reserve loadmaster at Dobbins ARB, Ga., said that current plans include partnering with the Georgia Air Show in Peachtree City and the Air Force Ball in Cobb County.
The last remaining T-1 Jayhawk at JBSA-Randolph, Texas, took its final flight to the "Boneyard" at Davis-Monthan Air Force Base, Ariz., on July 15. The 99th Flying Training Squadron will train pilots using T-6 and simulator until it gets T-7 Red Hawk in fiscal 2026.
