He may be retired but Gen. John Handy, the former head of US Transportation Command and Air Mobility Command, is on the speaker trail, talking about the mobility game. He is also a NASCAR fan, so he posed a comparison for a keynote address at the 2005 Salute to Southwestern Illinois: It would take 43 cars racing 17,635 years to equal the amount of processed fuel TRANSCOM/AMC has shipped to Southwest Asia. Handy also told the crowd that, since October 2001, TRANSCOM/AMC had flown approximately 55 million missions, comprising more than 1.2 million flight hours, 7.3 million short tons of cargo, and 3.3 million passengers.
The Space Development Agency says it’s on track to issue its next batch of missile warning and tracking satellite contracts this month after those awards were delayed by the Pentagon’s decision to divert funds from the agency to pay troops during this fall’s prolonged government shutdown.
