Shaw Now Has Second Flight Recorder: The Navy is turning over to the Air Force a second flight recorder from the F-16 that crashed into the ocean on April 5 during a training mission off the South Carolina coast, according to the Sumter (S.C.) Item. Crews from the USS Grapple recovered the fighter’s ejection seat, which contains the recorder, Lt. Bryan Cox, spokesman for Shaw AFB, S.C., told the paper.
A half-dozen pilots from one of the Air Force’s premier F-16 units, the 20th Fighter Wing at Shaw Air Force Base, S.C., have been awarded one of the service’s highest decorations for their role in Operation Midnight Hammer, the June 2025 strikes against Iranian nuclear facilities.
