Air Combat Command will inactivate the 7th Fighter Squadron at Holloman AFB, N.M., on Dec. 31 as it continues with plans to retire F-117 stealth fighters. The F-117 community at Holloman is holding a ceremony today to commemorate the end of the 7th FS, now called the “Screamin’ Demons.” The unit’s history, dating to 1941, includes legendary Air Force aces such as Maj. Richard Bong and Lt. Col. Gerald Johnson. Its F-117 fighters will be among the first to enter retirement.
The rate of building B-21 bombers would speed up if the fiscal 2026 defense budget passes. But it remains unclear how much capacity would be added, and whether the Air Force would simply build the bombers faster, or buy more.
