The famed Japanese American 442nd Regimental Combat Team that fought in the World War II European Theater now has a new C-17 airlifter carrying its slogan “Go for Broke.” At a ceremony Thursday at Hickam AFB, Hawaii, the seventh of eight C-17s to be assigned to the Pacific Air Forces flew in with the name The Spirit of “Go for Broke” emblazoned on its fuselage. A number of the 442nd men were on hand for the ceremony. Air Force officials say their unit became the most decorated unit for its size and length of service in US military history.
Members of Congress from both parties expressed frustration and dismay over the abrupt and still-unexplained firing last month of Air Force Gen. Timothy Haugh from his dual role as head of U.S. Cyber Command and director of the National Security Agency.
