Stop—No Travel to Texas Navy Sites or Keesler: The Air Force has told airmen destined for NAS Corpus Christi, NAS Kingsville, and Naval Station Ingleside to stay where they are until Hurricane Rita dissipates over land. The same goes for airmen traveling to Keesler AFB, Miss. The Mississippi base, already hit hard by Hurricane Katrina, is bracing for heavy rains out of Rita. The Air Force says that any airmen already on their way to these locations should change course, heading for the nearest air force base out of harm’s way. USAF has more information at 800-435-9941.
Lockheed Martin has approved F-35s flying with a 50-50 blend of standard jet fuel and Synthetic Aviation Turbine Fuel, made from waste oils, coal, gas, and other carbon products. Norway flew two F-35s using a 40/60 mixture of standard and SAT fuels earlier this week.
