Veterans’ medical care got a big budget boost, thanks to a unanimous Senate vote, approving an increase of $4 billion to the VA’s Fiscal 2006 budget. The boost should cure the shortfall the VA says it identified after turning in its 2006 budget request. (Read our report on the shortfall here.)
A new report from the Government Accountability Office calls for the Pentagon’s Chief Technology Officer to have budget certification authority over the military services’ research and development accounts—a move the services say would add a burdensome and unnecessary layer of bureaucracy.
