The Air Force issued long-overdue Distinguished Flying Crosses to nine Army Air Forces airmen in a Capitol Hill ceremony. Gen. Michael Moseley, Chief of Staff, presented the medals for the crew’s actions during the July 15, 1944 attack on the Nazi-controlled oil refineries around Ploesti, Romania. The Air Force is launching an effort to develop a new stand-off missile with a range of 1,000 nautical miles, or 1,150 miles, that would eventually be used for both air-to-air and air-to-surface missions.
