Airmen have been granted an extension to keep wearing the battle dress uniform cold-weather Gore-Tex and field jacket with the current airman battle uniform until next May since the demand for cold weather gear is outweighing the supply of the new ABU coat, officials with the Air Force Uniform Office at Wright-Patterson AFB, Ohio, announced Oct. 7. Back in June 2008, the Air Force gave major command leaders the authority to allow the BDU Gore-Tex and field jacket to be worn with the ABU when other approved cold-weather options were unavailable or unserviceable. Extension of this “”mix-and-match” policy is due to the fact that the supply of ABU cold-weather garments is being affected by delivery trends in the private industry sector, the uniform office said.
