USAF activates the 461st Air Control Wing at Robins AFB, Ga., changing the nine-year- old 116th ACW “blended” wing operation with the Air National Guard to an active associate arrangement between the two wings. ANG takes sole control of the 116th and ownership of the E-8C JSTARS aircraft, which the 461st helps operate and maintain.
