Nuclear Weapons Official Nominated to Run AFLCMC

Air Force Nuclear Weapons Center boss Maj. Gen. Shaun Morris is nominated for the top spot at the Air Force Life Cycle Management Center, the service said May 13.

Morris is also up for a promotion to lieutenant general. His nomination was sent to the Senate on May 11.

If confirmed, he will replace Lt. Gen. Robert McMurry, who has run AFLCMC since May 2017. The Air Force did not say where McMurry will go next.

Morris has overseen USAF nuclear weapons procurement and sustainment in New Mexico since October 2017. Before that, he served as program executive officer for weapons, managed the Air Force Security Assistance and Cooperation Directorate, and worked with the KC-46 tanker program, among other positions on the Air and Joint Staffs.

“Over the course of my career, I’ve had several opportunities to be part of the great team at the Air Force Life Cycle Management Center,” Morris said in a press release. “I’m honored to rejoin this fantastic organization with its long history of developing, fielding, modernizing, and sustaining the world’s greatest Air Force, as well as forging critical relationships with our allies and partners.”

AFLCMC encompasses more than 28,000 people and has a budget of about $258 billion. The center oversees procurement, upgrades and maintenance, and retirement of the entire Air Force inventory.
