President Obama nominated Lt. Gen. Andrew Busch to become the next director of the Defense Logistics Agency in Fort Belvoir, Va., announced the Pentagon on Wednesday. If the Senate approves this nomination, Busch would replace Vice Adm. Mark Harnitchek, who has led DLA since November 2011. Busch has been vice commander of Air Force Materiel Command since July 2012. He commanded Defense Supply Center Richmond in Richmond, Va., which is also known as DLA Aviation, from June 2007 to June 2009, according to DLA’s release. Obama also tapped Maj. Gen. Mark Nowland to receive a third star for a new assignment as commander of 12th Air Force (Air Forces Southern) at Davis-Monthan AFB, Ariz. He has been US Southern Command’s chief of staff in Miami since June 2013. He would succeed Lt. Gen. Tod Wolters, who has led the numbered air force since September 2013. Obama also nominated Maj. Gen. Charles Brown for appointment to the rank of lieutenant general to lead Air Forces Central Command at al Udeid AB, Qatar, and oversee Air Force activity in southwest Asia. Since March, Brown has served as US Air Forces in Europe’s director of operations, strategic deterrence, and nuclear integration at Ramstein AB, Germany. He would replace Lt. Gen. John Hesterman who has led AFCENT since July 2013.
