The Air Force has discovered that 106 dorms housing first-term airmen have deteriorated since the service implemented decentralized dorm maintenance funding after it completed upgrading all dorms, eliminating central latrines and making other improvements. Those 106 dorms represent just 10 percent of the service’s inventory, but CMSAF Rodney McKinley termed quality of life for airmen “a top priority” and said USAF “is reviewing all our dormitories.” The service now plans to create a centralized account to fund urgent dorm requirements and, over the next few years, to increase funding for dorm renovation overall. The Air Force is requesting about $141 million for initial enlistment bonuses in its fiscal 2026 budget, while Space Force wants $13 million.
