The Air Force last month announced that JB Langley-Eustis, Va.; JB San Antonio, Texas; Scott AFB, Ill.; and Wright-Patterson AFB, Ohio, are the candidate bases to host the headquarters of the new Air Force Installation and Mission Support Center. Service officials chose these four locations from a pool of 10 installations, according to the mid-November release. Air Force Materiel Command activated AFISMC (Provisional) in August and temporarily located it at JB Andrews, Md. The center is meant to consolidate major command-level installation and mission support activities under one commander and to save the service money. AFMC officials will now conduct detailed surveys of each candidate location and develop cost estimates to bed down the center at each base. Selection of the preferred location and the reasonable alternative is slated for early 2015. “The Air Force is committed to a deliberate and open process to address AFIMSC HQ basing,” said Timothy Bridges, the Air Force’s deputy assistant secretary for installations.
The Air Force budget would grow to $234 billion while Space Force spending would shrink to $26 billion under the White House's yearly ask.
