Two members of the 436th Logistics Readiness Squadron at Dover AFB, Del., received Bronze Star Medals on Oct. 30 for their meritorious service while deployed to Southwest Asia. TSgt. Jimmy Heater was recognized for his actions as a combat convoy commander in Iraq, during which he completed 15 convoy missions and logged more than 7,000 miles while safely escorting more than 405 contracted vehicles loaded with more than 25,000 tons of supplies. The emphasis on speed in the Pentagon’s newly unveiled slate of acquisition reforms may come with increased near-term cost increases, analysts say. But according to U.S. defense officials, the new weapons-buying construct provides the military with enough flexibility to prevent runaway budget overruns in major programs.
