The Air Force leadership has named Kevin Geiss the service’s new deputy assistant secretary of energy. This is a new position meant to reinforce USAF’s commitment to energy efficiency. In his new role, Geiss will oversee the Air Force’s Energy Office—with its 11 staff members—that is responsible for all Air Force energy matters. The office supports Air Force Undersecretary Erin Conaton, the service’s designated senior energy official. “Energy is an enabler for all we do in support of global Air Force missions. I am excited to be coming back at a time when there is such tremendous leadership support for this area. I am committed to help lead our service to a more energy secure future,” said Geiss. He previously spent two years as the Army’s program director for energy security. (SAF/PA report by Capt. Chris Sukach)
Navy Adm. Richard Correll succeeded Air Force Gen. Anthony J. Cotton as head of U.S. Strategic Command on Dec. 5, stressing the need for the combatant command to understand and embrace new technologies for its deterrence mission.
