Testers at Edwards AFB, Calif., are evaluating new software for the C-5M transport, according to a base release. The Super Galaxy’s “Block 3.5.2 software upgrade is intended to correct 72 deficiency reports that were documented during previous C-5M test programs,” said Joel Williams, C-5 lead engineer for Edwards’ 775th Test Squadron, in the May 9 release. Testers at Dover AFB, Del., initially modified this particular C-5M airframe, before sending it to Edwards. This work included adding upgrades to “the automatic flight control system, auto throttle, display services, embedded diagnostic system, and flight management system,” states the release. The Air Force plans to upgrade 52 of its C-5s to the C-5M standard. (Edwards report by Jet Fabara)
