The Pentagon announced today that TSgt. Anthony C. Campbell Jr., 35, of Florence, Ky., died Dec. 15 from wounds he received from an improvised explosive device that detonated in Helmand Province, Afghanistan. Campbell had deployed from Air Force Reserve Command’s 932nd Civil Engineer Squadron at Scott AFB, Ill. (For more read this Scott release posted Dec. 17)
Airmen basic rarely go on to become four-star generals, but one who did retired last week after a 42 year career that saw him rise from a lowly slick-sleeve to the head of one of the Air Force’s most important major commands.
