Keesler Medics Aid Katrina Victims: More than a year after Hurricane Katrina struck the Mississippi Gulf Coast, medical teams from Keesler AFB, Miss., continue to make daily house calls to residents still living in area shelters. Two teams of doctors, nurses, and social workers evaluate the people’s medical conditions, providing treatment and care. Just last month, a visit to one shelter in a junior high school just beyond Keesler’s gates, found residents suffering from lack of food and water and living in unsanitary conditions. “In many cases, we are the only source of medical care these folks will receive,” noted 1st Lt. Schavonne Fludd, who coordinates the medical visits.
