The Pentagon will eliminate geographic rate protection for the basic housing allowance come January. From that point forward, BAH will fluctuate based on regional housing cost estimates collected by military housing offices. The services will adjust the rates annually. But, officials say, there is an “individual rate protection” feature that will protect personnel locked into a lease, so they don’t get stiffed if the housing market rate drops. Read more here.
The six-week government shutdown did not affect the hours flown by Air Force pilots, a service spokesperson told Air & Space Forces Magazine—avoiding what could have been a major blow at a time when flying hours are already lower than they have been in decades.
