According to Lockheed Martin officials, the company recently completed the latest upgrades for the Theater Battle Management Core Systems (MBMCS) at the Air Force’s third Falconer Air Force Air Operations Center. The upgrade enables personnel to support the AOC’s air operations command and control process via a Web browser from any location. Three quarters of TBMCS applications are now accessible via a Web-based net centric architecture, providing the Air Force, Army, Navy, and Marine Corps easier access to intelligence, mission planning, and air battle management information. Officials say that once installation is complete at all five Falconers, the Air Force will be able to reduce personnel in forward locations.
As Air Force leaders consider concepts of operations for Collaborative Combat Aircraft, sustainment in the field—and easing that support by using standard parts and limiting variants—should be a key consideration, according to a new study from AFA's Mitchell Institute of Aerospace Studies.
