The Pentagon says that the “Blue to Green” interservice transfer program recently logged its 1,000th taker. The program enables airmen and sailors, many of whom face getting cut from the Air Force and Navy, to become soldiers. Just a year ago, there were less than 500 in the program. According to Pentagon personnel official Bill Carr, former airman—and now Army 2nd Lt. Michael Moore—is a “good example” of those military members who may simply want to try the other side. The one-time air battle manager opted to go infantry and also has taken airborne and ranger training. Carr said, “He’s really taking the full exposure and doing very well at it.”
As Air Force leaders consider concepts of operations for Collaborative Combat Aircraft, sustainment in the field—and easing that support by using standard parts and limiting variants—should be a key consideration, according to a new study from AFA's Mitchell Institute of Aerospace Studies.
