American adults continue to express pessimism over the situation in Iraq, saying they do not believe US policies will succeed, according to a new Harris Poll released May 26. The poll reveals that Americans increasingly are negative about President Bush’s handling of the Iraq war—68 percent now compared to 36 percent two years ago. Forty three percent of US adults think the situation for US troops is getting worse—a drop of three points from March but still significantly above the 36 percent posted in January.
