The 40th Expeditionary Airlift Squadron airdropped about one million leaflets from a C-130 flying over 10 drop zones in Iraq. A Polish psychological operations unit in Iraq asked for the special drop to ask Iraqi citizens to help locate three leaders of an insurgent militia group. Information operations planner Lt. Col. Elizabeth Kavanagh at the Combined Air and Space Operations Center said citizens carrying the leaflets showed up at local police stations “within hours of the drop.”
As Air Force leaders consider concepts of operations for Collaborative Combat Aircraft, sustainment in the field—and easing that support by using standard parts and limiting variants—should be a key consideration, according to a new study from AFA's Mitchell Institute of Aerospace Studies.
