The Nebraska Air National Guard activated two new units—the 170th Group and 238th Combat Training Squadron—at Offutt AFB, Neb., last week. The two units will support the active-duty 55th Wing. The Omaha World Herald reports that there will be no personnel increase because the 170th Group will absorb the Air Guard’s 170th Operations Support Squadron, which has provided pilot training for the 55th Wing’s various reconnaissance platforms, since its formation in 2005. Per BRAC 2005, Nebraska’s only Air Guard wing, the 155th Air Refueling Wing at Lincoln Airport, will lose its KC-135 tankers.
The Air Force wants more companies able to produce its new, multi-use, anti-radar missile that one expert says will prove vital in any future peer conflict and would be in high demand for the war in Iran if stocks were available now.
