According to Wichita’s TV7 News, Sheppard AFB, Tex., has received the last of the modified T-38 trainers the Air Force expects to acquire. Don’t be misled by the total number, though. The last tally we received from the Air Force indicated the service had revamped a total of 381 T-38 trainers into the C model. Sheppard flew the last of its AT-38s last year, as it transitioned to the upgraded Talon. (The 420th Flying Training Wing mentioned in the piece would be the Reserve 420th Flight Test Flight.)
The Air Force is planning to spend $2.19 billion over the next five years to acquire new C-37 jets for transporting military and civilian leaders. That’s on top of another $1.17 billion in projected funding for the VC-25B “Air Force One” replacement.
