The Mike O’Callaghan Federal Medical Center at Nellis AFB, Nev., went into lockdown in late January after a distraught man appeared to have a gun in the parking lot of the hospital, according to a Feb. 3 Air Force release. The incident happened around 10 a.m. on Jan. 30 and, though the hospital remained locked down, the 99th Medical Group continued to work and provide care to its patients. Aside from providing basic patient care, they even delivered two babies and completed two surgeries, according to the release. “We do [exercises] all the time within our unit,” said 1st Lt. Andrea Simpson, 99th Inpatient Squadron registered nurse. “We are trained to handle these situations.” Teisha Burke, the mother of a patient who went into labor that day, said the lockdown was almost nonexistent to them. “I was fine. I know that the Air Force had it [under control],” said the patient Téa Burke.
The Space Development Agency wants to wrap up its Tranche 1 launch campaign by the end of spring 2027, flying six more batches of satellites to build out its tracking and data transport constellations, according to Director Gurpartap Sandhoo.
