TSgt. Daniel L. Douville, 33, of Harvey, La., has died in Afghanistan, announced the Defense Department. Douville died Sunday as a result of injuries suffered from an improvised explosive device on the border of the Nad ‘Ali district of Helmand province. He was assigned to the 96th Civil Engineer Squadron at Eglin AFB, Fla. (See also New Orleans Times-Picayune report.)
Airmen basic rarely go on to become four-star generals, but one who did retired last week after a 42 year career that saw him rise from a lowly slick-sleeve to the head of one of the Air Force’s most important major commands.
