A Reborn 1st SOW:

Air Force Special Operations Command reactivated the 1st Special Operations Wing at a Hurlburt Field, Fla., ceremony Nov. 16, the day Hurlburt received its first CV-22 Osprey. AFSOC commander, Lt. Gen. Michael Wooley, called the redesignation of 16th SOW to 1st SOW “long overdue.” He said, “Today, we’re getting back our ‘family name’—with the pride and strength of the bloodline.” The 1st SOW, which was redesignated 16th SOW in 1993, traces its heritage to the World War II 1st Air Commando Group. AFSOC plans to stand up the 16th SOW at its newly acquired Cannon AFB, N.M.
